Flame Retardant Masterbatch

Most organic polymer materials are combustible to varying degrees, and flame-retardant modification is a prerequisite for entering the building, transportation and electrical & electronic industries. Fundchem's flame retardant masterbatch is built on both halogenated and halogen-free systems, covering polyolefin film, woven fabric and fiber spinning processes, achieving self-extinguishing behavior upon removal of the ignition source while maintaining compatibility with the base resin and friendliness to processing equipment.

Industry-Specific Grades

The film grade is developed for LDPE film with halogenated or halogen-free options, achieving self-extinguishing within 5 seconds after ignition removal and meeting the UL94 VTM-2 standard. The woven FIBC grade offers excellent thermal stability and colorability, with no blooming, resistance to water and light aging, non-toxicity and good compatibility with polymers. The PP fiber spinning grade meets UL94 VTM-0 with self-extinguishing performance, withstands 300 °C processing temperatures, causes no screen clogging and no equipment corrosion, and is adapted to spinning lines. The nylon grade is a halogen-free, white opaque system that meets UL94 VTM-2 at low dosage.

Dual Protection: Flame Retardant + UV

For outdoor products or exports to European standards, Fundchem offers dual-protection masterbatches combining halogen-free flame retardancy with UV aging resistance: the nonwoven dual grade reaches DIN 4102 B1 classification while retaining ≥80% after 500 h of UV exposure; the film dual grade meets ISO 4892-3 aging test 1,000 h ≥80% together with UL94 VTM-0. Application Case

A Shandong packaging manufacturer needed a flame retardant solution for carpet film (35–70 μm) supplied to the European market. The masterbatch showed excellent compatibility with the base resin across the full thickness range at a recommended dosage of 5–10%, with no changes to the existing production line or equipment parameters. In the customer's test at 10% dosage, the ignited film self-extinguished within 1 second — far beyond the 5-second pass criterion — allowing smooth export certification without compromising film toughness or appearance.
